The Do Lectures 2011

I was extremely lucky to attend the 'Do Lectures' last week courtesy of my good friend, and one of the key organisers, Anna Felton. Held at the truly stunning fforest in South Wales, the event plays host to inspirational speakers from across the globe.

I met some great people (Frank Chimero, Perry Chen and Zach Smith to name but a few), ate some amazing food, drank some of the finest Welsh Beer, Heard some truly inspirational stories and even swam in the beautiful (but freezing) Teifi River. I would recommend it to anyone so if you get the chance then jump at it! (pictures taken from Flickr as my pictures were on my phone and my phone broke.)

After dabbling in a bit of animation over the last few months and really enjoying it I decided to submit something for the E4 E-stings competition. so here it is!

A-Z Advert

Over the last few months I've been working closely with Sara Dunlop and the guys at Rattling Stick to produce this advert for a certain, well-known fast food chain...

I worked on the initial story-boarding, concepts and set design and then was involved in photoshoots and even did some of the animation in the ad. It was very involved and a really fun experience. I'll put up some of the drawings on my website soon.

The ETHICAL ISSUE of working for a company such as Mcdonald's did cross my mind when I agreed to take on the job. I'm sure some of you, for whatever reason, may feel like I'm 'selling out' and would have turned down the job if offered. Personally I don't have a problem with the company (although I don't actually like the taste of Mcdonald's...well, I might be tempted with the odd chicken nugget...) Today, A company of it's size (and possibly its reputation) is so strictly regulated that it has no choice but to follow rigid ethical guidelines and meet standards that smaller companies may be able get around or ignore. Of course there is no debate that Mcdonald's is the epitome of capitalism which may sit uncomfortably with some people but as a commercial illustrator or artist where do you draw the line, or have we all already crossed it?

2nd Sport Cover

I was commissioned to do another cover for Sport magazine the other week. The screen-printed design focused on the Heineken Cup final and asked if it was the 'Rise of the Red Rose?' Well, it turned out it wasn't, oh well... 

Good Fibres

Sport Magazine Cover

As the first leg of Man U vs Chelsea draws ever closer I thought it was appropriate to post the cover that I did for Sport Magazine the other day. Now certain friends have suggested that the Lion looks to have the upper hand in the illustration...others (me) suggest that the devil is merely toying with him. I guess we'll have to wait and see...
